This workshop is for you if:

  • You're stuck in the never-ending cycle of "what should I write about?!" In this workshop, I will help you choose which book topic is best for you right now with your current life goals in mind.
  • You're not just wanting to write as a hobby. We'll focus on how your book can be both a creative endeavor and a big boost to your career.
  • You're writing a full-length book of fiction or non-fiction and you want to either publish traditionally or through self-publishing options. This process has worked for all kinds of books and includes tools to support your publishing goals.

This workshop is NOT for you if:

  • You're a jerk who likes taking other people down. We have a strict no assholes policy around here.
  • You're racist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise spewing hate towards others. School for Writers is proudly ran by queers, feminists and women of color.
  • You're writing a book that tries to shame people into losing weight or changing who they are. We are a body positive and shame free zone.
  • You don't want to do the work. We will hand you the tools you need, but ultimately you have to do the work.

What our participants said:

Don't just take our word for it! Here's what past students of Lauren have said about this process.

"This is a really beautiful process Lauren has created that meets you where you are, with rest and thinking built in.

My book is out in the world – like a physical, real, published book! – and I wouldn’t have been able to do that without Lauren."

Laura Eigel, author of the non-fiction professional development book Values First

"It feels good to know there is a process.

I go to other writing events and it’s all craft and no structure.

I love that [Lauren] gives me both the ability to be feeling around in the creative dark and shows me the steps to get out."

Cole Nfonoyim, fiction author and program participant
